What would you like?? What would be the right mix for yuou?? What kind of album would make you go "oh yeah I love this" and what kind of album do you think would work best for Darren as in being a success??

^^ I guess those two things could be completly different things.. cause I did love TTATS and lyrically that fulfilled a lot of my Darren Hayes voice needs.

I think he just has to embrace who he is.. not try to distant himself from Savage Garden, not try to be different from TTATS Darren. Just write what he knows and what is honest. If he writes a song and it sounds too much like Savage Garden.. so what?? If its a great song put it out there. If its completely different from anything he has ever done and its great, put it on the album. I do think for commercial success he has to have that big love ballad/wedding song. Since he is in love it wont have to be calculated like IKILY. Now I probably wont like it at all.. but I think the masses will love something like that as it his No 1's (US) have been Truly and IKILY.

I think he needs to distinguish himself from all the boybands of the world and all the crooners.. the James Blunts etc.

Oh gosh Kat, I dunno really! For me, I think that this particular (DH) ship has now sailed so I really have no 'wants' from him but for the sake of discussion, I suppose that a more organic sounding album than TTATS would probably make me sit up and take notice. You can't beat (pun not intended) a good rhythm section of bass and drums and the sound of an electric guitar(s).

I guess it all boils down to the fact that I'm not really a fan of the type of songs that he's writing now, however good they are. They're just not 'me' anymore. I prefer a hefty dollop of attitude and *grrrr* in my music nowadays!

He's definitely got a wonderful voice but I'm not sure that he could (or would want to) sing the type of songs that I really like and that I now choose to listen to.

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">^^^ LOl I know..but since you know you will have to give them a listen.. might as well put forward what we want. or would make him succesful again.

I mean no hes not going to morph into a rock band for me either.. because I am a rock chick at heart and always will be.

But if hes going to put out something I want it to be a good one..I personally dont want sap.. I want attitude as well. Maybe accoustic with attitude LOL

I like him doing angst best... it just is my personal favourite.. or angst but inspiring mixed in with it. But I think the masses and core fans really do love those love songs of his..So perhaps to be succesful the album shouldnt appeal to me lol

I know what you mean Kat.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd be more than happy if he never made another love song but that's just my own personal choice and taste. He'll do what he (or the masses) want and I guess that goes for all performers. They (gen) all need to make a success of it one way or another or else they might as well jack it in completely.

Where Darren is concerned, I've always enjoyed his music, especially Affirmation and TTATS because they've told a story, the story of a person's life. I've always loved that about SG/DH music, not only the music but the lyrics as well, with the use of metaphors and imagery used in such a way that conjures up exactly the feeling or emotion being conveyed. This does not have to be a criteria for me with many other artists because I guess I simply don't relate to them in the way I do to Darren's work. Perhaps for me the man and the music are inextricably interwoven.

I love songs with conflicting emotions in them, ones that you need to get your head around. I love the deep, darkness of some of his work. I love to be able to explore the feelings behind the words and music. I still love a good love song, so long as it's real and sincere and not just something shallow and meaningless.

Musically I am hoping for something along more acoustic, organic lines this time and I think Darren has already indicated that this is what he is intending to do with his next album. I think with Darren less is more because his voice is his main instrument and doesn't need complicated sounds over-riding it.

I'm certainly looking forward to what he's working on atm

What do you think will sell Janie?? As he has indicated he has to stop mucking around now and be succesful.. so with that in mind what do you think he has to do??

I love the albums the way you described them too.. I guess they sold for SG so that is success.. yet TTATS didnt go anywhere? I blame the electronica for that.. it just didnt reach the average person.

Kat I just think perhaps he has to be a little more commercial without compromising himself musically.

He also needs much more backing from Sony promo wise too but in the light of TTATS and the non co-operation that went on with Sony with that album, from their point of view they made need convincing that his new album will be capable of mass sales before they are willing to actively promote it. It's a Catch 22 situation, and I can completely understand Darren not wanting any intervention on Sony's part with TTATS, but he needs their input with the new album before they any promotion can begin.

Sorry Kat I've been pondering this quessie and all I can come up with is one in which his voice is not overshadowed, it is the most prominent part

I love his voice and his lyrics are always penetrating.
